The Screamin' Eagles sent a message to the area Friday night and that message was that their defense isn't to be overlooked anymore. The Eagle's shutout the Watkins Mill Wolverines 36-0 while holding them to 60 yards of total offense. After a scoreless first quarter and a few offensive miscues, the Eagle's turned on the pressure and walked away with their first win of the season. Senior quarterback George Lerch threw for 130 yards and scrambled for a 10-yard touchdown run in the second quarter while RB's Joe Rankin, Pierre Hinton, and CJ Jones all scored rushing touchdowns. Rankin led all rushers with 77 yards on 13 carries to go along with one catch for 39 yards.
Defensively the Eagle's played smart and aggressive all night. They prevented the big play, something that plagued them all last season, and caused three turnovers. Sophomore Dimitri Parker led the way with a fumble return for a touchdown and an interception in which he came up short of the end zone. The Eagle's had great play from the defensive line, LB Thomas Best, and the secondary.
The Eagle's will battle the Northwest Jaguars this Friday night at home in a battle for the King's Trophy. The Jaguars are coming into the game with a big win over the Whitman Vikings.
