Seneca Valley's Xavier Hughes is among of growing list of Montgomery County athletes that are starting to make names for themselves on the national recruiting scene.
The 6-foot-1, 165-pound safety already has offers from West Virginia and Buffalo with Maryland also expressing serious interest.
The rising senior is being recruited as a safety and that is where he excels. A big hitter on defense, Hughes shows good football instincts and is the type of safety that wide receiver have to look for when they head over the middle.
Hughes runs a 4.6 40-yard dash and shows good change of direction and athleticism.
Last year, Hughes made 65 tackles with three interceptions, building upon his sophomore year when he recorded 43 tackles with one interception.
Hughes has the size and body type to play defensive back in college and will likely add more muscle to his frame before he sets foot on a college campus.
In 2007, Hughes was named First team All-league defensive back and made Honorable Mention All-state big school.
Hughes visited West Virginia's spring practice last weekend and plans on visiting Buffalo too.
