Free Safety Xavier Hughes received the first scholarship offer for the class of 2009 this week. The offer came from Fiesta Bowl winner, West Virginia University. The Mountianeers who already have SV alum Jon Walko on their roster, have offered Xavier the opportunity to play defensive back at their school on a full football scholarship. Xavier is an extremely athletic player with a ton of upside in ability and growth. He has been a two year starter for the Eagle's on defense and expects to play wide receiver this year on top of his defensive duties. The SV staff believes that this is only the beginning for Xavier and expect many more offers in the coming weeks. The staff also expects Joe Rankin, Kenton Powell, Keon Hester, and George Lerch to start hearing a lot more from schools as they have all garnered interest from Division 1A programs recently.
